China Institute of America is pleased to present a special evening featuring a screening of Rosemead at AMC Lincoln Square, followed by a fireside conversation with Lucy Liu.

Inspired by a harrowing true story, Rosemead follows an ailing mother who takes drastic measures to protect her troubled teenage son, set against the simmering tensions of a Chinese American community in the San Gabriel Valley. Lucy Liu delivers a powerful, career-redefining performance that brings depth and humanity to this gripping portrait of a family pushed to the edge.

After the screening, Lucy Liu will join Susan Yuqing Feng, Programs Director of China Institute, for a conversation about her role, her creative process, and the film’s cultural resonance.

Rosemead has earned wide acclaim, premiering at the Tribeca Festival, winning Locarno’s Prix du Public UBS and the Bentonville Film Festival’s Best Narrative Feature, and receiving a nomination for the Taipei Golden Horse Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Filmmaker, Artist, and Actor

Critically acclaimed actress and filmmaker Lucy Liu is internationally recognized for roles in films that have grossed over $3.7 billion worldwide, including Kill Bill, Charlie’s Angels, Chicago, Set It Up, Presence, and Red One. She produced and stars in the indie feature Rosemead which will be released in theaters this December. The feature film made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, won Best Narrative Feature at the Bentonville Film Festival, and won the Prix du Public UBS audience award at the Locarno Film Festival where Liu also accepted its prestigious Career Achievement Award.

Liu earned Emmy nominations for Ally McBeal and The Pirate Queen (VR), and has produced and championed impactful documentaries including Freedom’s Fury and Redlight.

A celebrated visual artist and longtime UNICEF Ambassador, Liu became only the second Asian American woman in nearly 60 years to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.


Susan Yuqing Feng

Moderator - Director of Programs, China Institute of America

Susan Yuqing Feng joined China Institute in America as Director of Programs in October of 2023. Before joining China Institute in America, Susan was the Editor in Chief of Bitpush News, a leading block chain media based in New York and a columnist for the Financial Times Chinese Edition.  

Throughout her journalism career, Susan conducted interviews with a multitude of world economic and political leaders, including Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Alan Greenspan, Paul Volker, President Clinton, Zbigniew Brzeziński, Michael Bloomberg, Thomas Friedman, and many more. Susan has also directed the documentary series “World Movers” which was released in March 2018. It illustrated the emerging new world order 70 years after WWII, shedding light on what has changed the U.S. and the world and the forces affecting everyone. It focused on the relationships between technology and globalization, the impact on immigration, and the future of U.S.-China relations.  

Susan graduated from Columbia University and got her MA in International Affairs.
